The Books of Magic #36

The Books of Magic #36 was published in 1997 as part of the long-running Vertigo imprint series. Following the success of Neil Gaiman's original miniseries, the ongoing title explored the maturation of Timothy Hunter, a young boy destined to become the world's greatest magician. This issue serves as a mid-run installment, reflecting the darker, more introspective tone that characterized the series under the editorial direction of Vertigo during the late nineties.

The series was noted for its rotating cast of writers and artists who contributed to the evolving, psychedelic aesthetic of the DC magic universe. The design and visual storytelling throughout this period prioritized a sophisticated, painterly approach to fantasy, aiming to distinguish the title from the mainstream superhero output of the time. The series maintained a dedicated cult following, praised for its complex narrative threads and the philosophical dilemmas faced by its protagonist.
