The Crown: A Tale of Hell #2

The Crown: A Tale of Hell was a four-part comic book miniseries published by DC Comics under their Vertigo imprint in 2000. It was conceived as a gritty, supernatural crime drama, heavily influenced by the noir genre and occult mythology. The series sought to explore the darker corners of the Vertigo line, a mature-readers label that had become synonymous with sophisticated, experimental storytelling in the late 1990s.

The comic was written by Silas Greene and featured artwork by various contributors, aiming for a stark, atmospheric aesthetic that emphasized the moral decay of its protagonists. The series as a whole was intended to serve as a standalone narrative, but it arrived during a period where Vertigo was heavily saturated with similar occult titles. While it gained a niche following for its thematic consistency and moody panel layouts, it remains a relatively deep cut within the broader Vertigo catalog, serving as a reflection of the label's late-era focus on urban gothic tales.
