The Curse of Sherlee Johnson #5

The Curse of Sherlee Johnson was an independent comic series released in the mid-1990s, emerging during a period of significant experimentation within the alternative comics market. Published by Slave Labor Graphics, the series was created and illustrated by Kevin Atkinson, who utilized a distinctively raw, gothic aesthetic to explore themes of suburban isolation and supernatural dread. The narrative trajectory of the fifth issue fits within the broader intent of the series to blend psychological tension with elements of dark humor.

The design of issue number five reflects the aesthetic leanings of the independent underground scene of the era, prioritizing atmospheric storytelling over the glossy production values of mainstream publishers. Atkinson’s work on the series is often cited by collectors for its idiosyncratic visual style and its uncompromising tone. While the series did not achieve widespread commercial success, it earned a dedicated cult following among readers who favored unconventional narratives and the unique artistic perspective of the Pacific Northwest comic scene.
