The Dangers in My Heart #12

The Dangers in My Heart, written and illustrated by Norio Sakurai, began serialization in 2018. Chapter 12 serves as a pivotal installment in the early development of the series, which follows the developing bond between the withdrawn, cynical Kyotaro Ichikawa and the popular, somewhat clumsy model Anna Yamada. Sakurai crafted the series as a character-driven rom-com that subverts common genre tropes by focusing on the authentic, awkward progression of adolescence and social anxiety.

The design and tone of the series are characterized by Sakurai’s deliberate use of visual storytelling and evolving artistic style, which leans into both comedic absurdity and sincere emotional intimacy. Upon its release in the digital magazine Manga Cross, the series gained significant critical attention for its nuanced depiction of its protagonists' internal monologues. It has since been recognized for its successful transition from a lighthearted gag-focused premise to a deeply sentimental exploration of first love.
