Where it came from
Published in June 1978, The Defenders #60 arrived during a period of creative transition for Marvel's non-team. The story, titled '...And Give Me Power!', was written by David Kraft with art by Ed Hannigan and Jim Mooney. This era of the series sought to balance the group's chaotic, often eccentric ensemble dynamic while navigating the changing tone of late-seventies superhero storytelling, which increasingly emphasized complex character interplay over traditional team structures.
The issue features cover art by Al Milgrom, whose work was instrumental in defining the visual identity of the title during this time. The Defenders were often utilized by Marvel as a sandbox for experimental concepts, and issue #60 is noted for its focus on the internal psychological struggles of the members rather than standard villain-of-the-month tropes. It remains a representative example of the mid-tier Bronze Age output that solidified the Defenders' reputation as the premier home for Marvel's outsiders.
