The Fury of Firestorm #47

The Fury of Firestorm #47, published by DC Comics in May 1986, arrived during a transformative period for the character. By this point in the series, the book had moved away from its original 1978 origins as a nuclear-themed superhero cautionary tale and evolved into a more complex narrative exploring the fusion of student Ronnie Raymond and scientist Martin Stein. This particular issue was part of the ongoing effort to ground the character within the broader DC Universe following the massive continuity shifts of Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The issue features work by writer Gerry Conway, who was the primary architect of the Firestorm mythos throughout the 1980s, alongside art by Rafael Kayanan. The design and narrative direction of this era focused on balancing high-stakes science fiction elements with the interpersonal drama of the dual-identity protagonist. As part of a long-running series, the issue reflects the industry standard of mid-eighties superhero comics, emphasizing accessible serial storytelling that catered to both new readers and those following the character’s complex development during the mid-decade DC renaissance.
