The Fury of Firestorm #55

Published in January 1987, The Fury of Firestorm #55 arrived during a transitional period for the DC Comics superhero title. By this point in the series' history, the character had moved past his initial 1970s origin and was firmly established within the broader DC Universe following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths. This specific era of the book explored the complex dynamics of Ronnie Raymond and Professor Martin Stein, as the creative team worked to balance the character's science-fiction roots with the evolving tone of late 1980s superhero storytelling.

The issue features cover art and interior work consistent with the series' long-running creative stewardship under writer John Ostrander. Ostrander was instrumental in redefining Firestorm, often steering the narrative toward more grounded, socio-political themes while maintaining the internal physics-based logic of the character's nuclear powers. The design and narrative direction were received as a maturation of the franchise, aiming to challenge the protagonist's morality and responsibility in a world where public perception of heroes was shifting toward greater ambiguity.
