The Fury of Firestorm #58

Published in April 1987 by DC Comics, The Fury of Firestorm #58 emerged during a transitional period for the character. This issue is notable for being part of the run written by John Ostrander, who took over the title during this era to ground the nuclear-powered hero in more complex, often politically charged narratives. The artwork in this period frequently featured the dynamic penciling of Joe Broggie, helping to maintain the series' reputation for blending science fiction concepts with human-centric drama.

The issue fits into the mid-80s landscape of DC Comics, a time when the publisher was actively seeking to modernize its secondary tier of superheroes following the massive continuity overhaul of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Firestorm, being a character defined by the literal union of two distinct personalities, served as a unique vehicle for exploring themes of identity and responsibility. Readers and critics of the time generally appreciated the title's shift toward more mature, grounded storytelling, which helped define the character's trajectory for the remainder of the decade.
