The Fury of Firestorm #63

The Fury of Firestorm #63, published in September 1987, emerged during a transitional period for the character within the DC Universe. Following the high-profile events of the 1980s, the series sought to ground the nuclear-powered hero in more complex, often geopolitical narratives. This era of the title often balanced the character's science-fiction origins with the social commentary that had defined writer Gerry Conway's long tenure on the series.

The interior artwork for this period was largely handled by artists such as Joe Brozowski, whose style aimed to maintain the balance between Firestorm’s cosmic power levels and the human dilemmas faced by his dual components, Ronnie Raymond and Mikhail Arkadin. The issue reflects the editorial direction of the late 1980s, which frequently explored themes of global instability and the shifting identity of the hero, ultimately serving as a bridge to the title's eventual conclusion and subsequent re-launches.
