The Fury of Firestorm #62

Published by DC Comics in August 1987, The Fury of Firestorm #62 serves as a pivotal chapter in the nuclear-powered hero's history. During this period, the series underwent a tonal transition under writer John Ostrander, who shifted the book from a traditional superhero title into a more complex exploration of geopolitical themes and the burden of global responsibility. The issue is notable for its exploration of the character's struggle to balance his dual-identity dynamics with the looming threats of the late 1980s.

The artwork for this issue reflects the house style of the late Bronze Age and early Modern Age of comics, emphasizing the dynamic character interplay that defined Ostrander's tenure. As part of a series that sought to elevate the profile of the character following the 1985 Crisis on Infinite Earths, the design focus was on grounding the cosmic nature of Firestorm's abilities within a realistic, grounded sociopolitical environment. The issue was well-received by readers who appreciated the shift toward more substantive storytelling.
