The Kents #11

The Kents was a twelve-issue limited series published by DC Comics in 1997, serving as a historical Western expansion of the Superman mythos. Created by writer John Ostrander and artist Timothy Truman, the series explored the lives of Jonathan and Martha Kent's ancestors during the American Civil War era. The narrative shifted the focus from contemporary superhero tropes to a gritty, historical drama, examining the moral complexities faced by the Kent family on the Kansas frontier.

Issue number 11, titled 'The Long Road Home,' continues the series' deliberate pace and focus on the brutal realities of the period. Timothy Truman’s illustrations utilized a rugged, textured aesthetic that aimed to ground the story in a harsh, realistic Western atmosphere, departing from the polished style typical of mainstream superhero comics at the time. Upon its release, the series was noted by critics for its ambitious attempt to provide a grounded historical foundation for one of pop culture's most recognizable families.
