The Legion of Super-Heroes #301

The Legion of Super-Heroes #301 was published in July 1983 as part of the long-running series titled The Legion of Super-Heroes, Volume 2. This issue served as a pivotal point in the 'Legionnaires' narrative, arriving during a period when the title was heavily shaped by the creative partnership of writer Paul Levitz and artist Keith Giffen. The series gained significant traction in the early 1980s for its complex, serialized storytelling and large, evolving cast of characters from the 30th century.

The design of this era is defined by Giffen’s evolving aesthetic, which moved toward a more sophisticated, character-focused layout that contrasted with the more traditional superhero visuals of the previous decade. By issue #301, the title had established itself as a cornerstone of the DC Comics universe, appreciated by readers for its ambitious world-building and the intricate interpersonal drama among the team members. It remains a representative example of the mature turn the franchise took under Levitz's stewardship.
