The Legion of Super-Heroes #307

The Legion of Super-Heroes #307, published in January 1984, arrived during a transformative period for DC Comics as the series navigated the complex continuity of the 30th-century team. This issue was part of the long-running second volume, which was famously revitalized under the direction of writer Paul Levitz and artist Keith Giffen. Their work during this era is celebrated for shifting the series toward more mature, intricate political storytelling, moving the team beyond their origins as a simple youth-oriented superhero group.

The visual identity of this era is defined by Keith Giffen’s evolving illustrative style, which moved away from traditional superhero layouts toward a more experimental, gritty aesthetic. By issue #307, the creative team was deeply immersed in the 'Great Darkness Saga' aftermath, focusing on character-driven arcs and the internal dynamics of the Legionnaires. The issue was received by readers as a key piece of 1980s cosmic world-building, cementing the title's reputation as a staple of DC's ambitious science fiction catalog.
