The New Adventures of Superboy #48

The New Adventures of Superboy #48 was published in December 1983 as part of a long-running series focusing on the formative years of Clark Kent in Smallville. During this era, the title served as a bridge between the classic Silver Age roots of the character and the modern shifts in DC Comics' editorial direction. The series utilized a rotating team of creators who sought to balance lighthearted teenage drama with the escalating stakes of superhero tropes.

The issue features cover art and interior work consistent with the aesthetic of early 1980s DC Comics, characterized by clean lines and traditional color palettes. At this point in the character's publication history, writers were experimenting with internal monologues and the emotional isolation inherent in being a superpowered youth. The issue is regarded by collectors as a mid-run installment that captures the specific, localized tone of Superboy's solo adventures before the significant continuity reset of the mid-1980s.
