Where it came from
Released in 1994 by Dark Horse Comics, Eternal Vows served as a direct narrative continuation of the 1982 John Carpenter film The Thing. This four-issue miniseries was penned by Jim Stenstrud and illustrated by Chuck Wojtkiewicz, emerging during a period when Dark Horse was actively expanding the cinematic universes of popular horror and science fiction properties through licensed comic book sequels.
The series was designed to explore the lingering dread of the Antarctic setting, focusing on the paranoia and biological horror established in the source material. Wojtkiewicz utilized a gritty, detailed aesthetic intended to mirror the bleak atmosphere of the original film, receiving a modest reception from dedicated fans of the genre who were eager to see the extraterrestrial entity’s reach extended beyond the final frames of the motion picture.
