The Thing on the Doorstep #5

The Thing on the Doorstep #5 is part of a comic book adaptation series inspired by H.P. Lovecraft’s seminal 1933 short story of the same name. Produced as a specialized genre publication, the series aimed to translate the cosmic horror and psychological dread characteristic of Lovecraftian fiction into a visual medium, focusing on the story's themes of body-swapping, ancestral curses, and madness.

The artistic direction for the series generally leaned into the dark, atmospheric aesthetics prevalent in independent horror comics of its era. These adaptations were created to appeal to fans of weird fiction and gothic literature, relying on detailed, ink-heavy panels to convey the unsettling nature of Edward Derby’s ill-fated encounter with Asenath Waite. While reception varied among purists of Lovecraft’s prose, the series remains a notable example of the enduring effort to capture the Cthulhu Mythos in sequential art.
