Where it came from
Released in July 1999, The Uncanny X-Men #370 served as the pivotal penultimate chapter of the 'The Shattering' storyline. Written by Alan Davis, who also provided the issue's pencils, the narrative focuses on the X-Men’s efforts to rescue their kidnapped teammates from the High Evolutionary, a classic conflict that explored themes of mutation, genetic identity, and cosmic stakes.
The visual direction of this issue is characteristic of Alan Davis's tenure on the series, blending his signature clean, dynamic line work with a classic aesthetic that many fans felt returned the book to its traditional roots. During this period, the title was attempting to navigate the aftermath of various X-Men status quo shifts, and the reception was generally positive among readers who appreciated the consistent, structured storytelling and the thematic focus on the core team dynamic.
