Where it came from
Published by DC Comics in 1968, The Unexpected #105 arrived during a period of transition for the company's line of science fiction and supernatural anthologies. These titles typically relied on standalone suspense stories designed to capitalize on the public fascination with the paranormal, gothic horror, and mysterious twists that characterized the Silver Age of comics.
The issue features artwork and narrative contributions consistent with DC's house style of the era, which emphasized atmospheric storytelling and punchline-driven finales. While these anthologies were staples of the newsstand market, they were often overshadowed by the burgeoning superhero titles, yet they remain highly regarded for their inventive cover art and the creative freedom afforded to the writers and illustrators tasked with filling their pages with strange and eerie tales.
