Where it came from
Thundarr the Barbarian issue #3 was released by Marvel Comics in 1983 as part of a short-lived series based on the popular Saturday morning animated show created by Steve Gerber, Joe Ruby, and Ken Spears. The comic was designed to expand upon the show's post-apocalyptic premise, which famously blended science fiction and sword-and-sorcery tropes to appeal to a broad audience of children during the early 1980s.
The comic series was brought to life by writer Mark Evanier and artist Alex Toth, whose design influence remained central to the aesthetic of the characters. While the series was generally well-received by fans of the animated show for maintaining the spirit of the source material, it was discontinued after nine issues due to the broader market trends affecting licensed comic books at the time.
