Ultimate Spider-Man #122

Ultimate Spider-Man #122 was published in 2008 as part of the broader Ultimate Marvel imprint, an initiative launched in the early 2000s to modernize classic characters for a new generation of readers. This specific issue falls within the long-running tenure of writer Brian Michael Bendis, who was instrumental in defining the voice of the Ultimate version of Peter Parker. By this stage in the series, the narrative was heavily focused on the personal and emotional stakes of teenage heroism, moving away from Silver Age tropes to embrace a more cinematic, decompressed storytelling style.

The interior artwork for this period was provided by Stuart Immonen, whose clean lines and expressive character work were widely praised for revitalizing the visual identity of the book. Immonen’s approach prioritized grounded character interactions and dynamic, accessible action sequences. The issue arrived during a transitionary period for the imprint, where the creative team was balancing established continuity with high-impact, emotional character arcs that aimed to make the Ultimate universe feel as vital and unpredictable as its mainstream counterpart.
