Ultimate X-Men #84

Ultimate X-Men #84 was released in 2007 as part of the broader Ultimate Marvel imprint, which sought to modernize and streamline the long-standing X-Men mythos for a 21st-century audience. This issue falls within the 'Sentinels' story arc, a pivotal narrative thread that reimagines the anti-mutant robots as an immediate, government-sanctioned threat, reflecting the series' recurring themes of societal anxiety and the ethical complexities of superhuman regulation.

The issue features the creative work of writer Robert Kirkman and artist Salvador Larroca. Larroca’s clean, cinematic aesthetic was instrumental in establishing the high-stakes visual language of the Ultimate universe, aiming to differentiate the series from the traditional, long-running continuity of mainstream X-Men titles. At the time of its release, the series was well-regarded for its fast-paced, episodic storytelling, though it remained subject to the critical debate surrounding the 'Ultimate' line's darker and often more cynical tone compared to its classic counterparts.
