Ultimate X-Men #80

Ultimate X-Men #80 was published in 2007 as part of Marvel Comics' Ultimate line, an initiative launched in the early 2000s to modernize and reinterpret classic superhero origins for a new generation of readers. This specific issue falls within the 'Sentinels' arc written by Robert Kirkman with interior art by Salvador Larroca, representing the series' attempt to maintain high-stakes, cinematic storytelling that distinguished the Ultimate imprint from the long-running continuity of the core Marvel Universe.

The creative direction for this era focused on a grittier, more vulnerable portrayal of the mutant team, often stripping away the traditional optimism of the X-Men in favor of political intrigue and personal trauma. Salvador Larroca’s clean, photo-referenced style was a hallmark of the title during this period, aiming to ground the superhuman narrative in a visual reality that resonated with contemporary audiences. While the issue serves as a chapter in a larger narrative arc, it reflects the editorial push at the time to redefine the X-Men's role as both heroes and pariahs within the global socio-political landscape.
