Usagi Yojimbo #81

Usagi Yojimbo #81, published in 2005 by Dark Horse Comics, represents a pivotal entry in the long-running epic saga created, written, and illustrated by Stan Sakai. The series follows Miyamoto Usagi, an anthropomorphic rabbit ronin wandering a version of Edo-period Japan populated by animals, blending historical fiction with samurai cinema tropes. By this point in the series' history, Sakai had established a dedicated following for his meticulous brushwork and his ability to integrate Japanese folklore with character-driven narrative arcs.

This issue is notable as part of the broader 'Senso' era of the series' internal chronology, showcasing Sakai's signature minimalist line style and deep commitment to authentic historical research. Like the issues preceding it, #81 focuses on character development and the moral code of the bushido path. The work received critical acclaim for its consistent quality and enduring relevance, maintaining a distinct position within the independent comic scene that emphasizes storytelling over conventional superhero tropes.
