Usagi Yojimbo #82

Usagi Yojimbo #82 was published in 2005 as part of the long-running series created, written, and illustrated by Stan Sakai. The series follows Miyamoto Usagi, a masterless samurai rabbit in Edo-period Japan, blending historical fiction with anthropomorphic characters. This issue is a significant installment within the Mirage Studios era of the title, continuing Sakai's meticulous approach to storytelling that balances philosophical themes of bushido with dynamic action choreography.

Stan Sakai’s design philosophy for the series emphasizes fluid, clean line work influenced by the brush techniques of traditional Japanese art and classic cinema, particularly the films of Akira Kurosawa. Issue #82 reflects the mature, character-driven narrative style that established the series as a critical success within the independent comic book industry. The reception of the book has been consistently positive, praised by peers and critics alike for its cultural research, accessible storytelling, and the enduring consistency of Sakai's craft over several decades of publication.
