Valor #6 was published in 1955 as part of the EC Comics line, specifically within their short-lived 'New Direction' initiative. Following the implementation of the Comics Code Authority in 1954, EC Comics was forced to pivot away from the visceral horror and crime titles that had defined their golden era. Valor was an attempt to capture the market for heroic, historical, and adventure-themed stories, leaning into the era's preference for sanctioned content.

The issue featured work from legendary creators associated with the EC stable, including artist Bernard Krigstein, who brought his distinct modernist flair and precise layouts to the title. Despite the high caliber of talent involved, the series struggled to find a sustainable audience in the restricted post-code landscape. As with many EC titles of this period, the production was noted for its high editorial standards and artistic integrity, though it ultimately served as a footnote in the publisher's transition to Mad magazine and their eventual exit from the comic book industry.
