Where it came from
Vampirella number 73 was published by Warren Publishing in November 1978, during a period when the company was expanding its reach in the horror and fantasy comics market. As part of a long-running anthology series, this issue maintained the brand's signature blend of gothic atmosphere, science fiction, and dark fantasy that had characterized the magazine since its inception in 1969.
The cover art for this specific issue is credited to Sanjulian, a Spanish artist whose work became synonymous with the aesthetic of Warren's magazines. Known for his dramatic use of shadow and realistic rendering, his illustrations sought to elevate the pulp-style character into a more sophisticated, cinematic medium, which resonated with readers who appreciated high-quality illustrative craft alongside the narratives.
