V・B・Rose #5

V.B. Rose, created by mangaka Banri Hidaka, debuted in the Japanese shoujo magazine Hana to Yume in 2004. This fifth volume continues the lighthearted narrative centered on Ageha, a headstrong high school girl who finds herself entangled in the lives of the proprietors of a custom-made boutique. The series emerged during a period of strong interest in romantic comedies that blended fashion-forward aesthetics with domestic life, reflecting the magazine's long-standing tradition of exploring high school romances through expressive, delicate art.

Banri Hidaka’s design for the series is characterized by meticulous attention to character costuming and soft, emotive character layouts. Volume 5 maintains the series' visual consistency, focusing on the development of the boutique's unique environment. Upon its release in the mid-2000s, the work was received as a charming entry in the shoujo genre, praised by readers for its balance of humor and character growth, and it solidified Hidaka’s reputation as an illustrator capable of navigating complex emotional arcs within a light, stylish framework.
