Where it came from
V.B. Rose, serialized in the Japanese shoujo magazine Chorus between 2004 and 2009, was created by the manga artist Banri Hidaka. This series explores the life of Ageha, a woman who discovers her sister is marrying the man she once admired, leading her to work at a bespoke dress shop run by two brothers. Volume 7 serves as a key installment in the series' character-driven narrative, reflecting Hidaka’s signature delicate linework and focus on fashion-centered storytelling, which helped define the aesthetic of mid-2000s josei-leaning shoujo manga.
Banri Hidaka’s design choices for the series, characterized by detailed renderings of high-fashion bridal and formal wear, were well-received by readers who appreciated the grounded, emotional maturity within the workplace romance genre. The series garnered a dedicated following for its departure from traditional high-school settings, and the physical volumes remain sought after by collectors of 2000s manga for their elegant cover illustrations and the distinct style that cemented Hidaka's reputation as a thoughtful chronicler of adult relationships.
