Where it came from
Vision and the Scarlet Witch #3 was published by Marvel Comics in December 1982 as part of a limited series exploring the unconventional domestic life of the titular android and mutant. Written by Bill Mantlo with interior art by Rick Leonardi and inks by Ian Akin and Brian Garvey, the issue is notable for its role in the complex continuity of the Marvel Universe, specifically regarding the origins of Wanda Maximoff and the sudden, magical conception of her twin sons.
The series emerged during an era where Marvel sought to expand the depth of its secondary characters through miniseries. Leonardi’s stylized, atmospheric pencils complemented Mantlo’s narrative, which aimed to ground the fantastical elements of the couple’s lives in a suburban setting. While the series was often seen as a niche expansion of the Avengers mythos at the time, it is retrospectively viewed as a foundational text for the Scarlet Witch’s modern character development and the wider Wiccan and Speed storylines that followed.
