Where it came from
VS Lupin #2 emerged during the mid-2000s as part of a series of stylized, collectible vinyl figures inspired by the iconic character Arsène Lupin III. Created by Japanese toy manufacturers and designers who sought to translate the classic manga and anime aesthetic into a tactile, urban-vinyl format, this issue represents a specific interpretation of the master thief's design. The series was produced to cater to the growing adult collector market, emphasizing artistic reimagining over simple character likeness.
The design of the figure reflects the influence of contemporary designer toy culture, characterized by bold silhouettes and a minimalist approach to detail. It was released to appeal to fans of the long-running Lupin III franchise who were interested in high-quality display pieces rather than traditional articulated action figures. Upon its release, it was well-received within the hobbyist community, marking a shift in how character-based merchandise was positioned as collectible art.
