Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #75

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #75 was published by Dell Comics in 1961 as part of their long-running Four Color anthology series and subsequent standalone title dedicated to the iconic animated character. These comics served to extend the reach of Lantz's theatrical shorts, providing a medium for Woody's frantic, chaotic antics to be translated into the static, episodic format of mid-century children's literature.

The art and stories in this period were produced by the staff at Western Publishing, which held the licensing agreement for Dell's animation-based properties. Artists and writers of this era worked to maintain the visual consistency of the screen versions, focusing on simple, slapstick-driven narratives that appealed to a post-war youth demographic. While intended as disposable entertainment, these issues have since become valued by animation historians for documenting the transition of theatrical cartoons into the expanding world of licensed comic book media.
