Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker #74

Walter Lantz Woody Woodpecker issue number 74 was published in the mid-1950s as part of Dell Comics' long-running Four Color and subsequent solo title series. During this period, Dell held the licensing rights to the Walter Lantz characters, translating the high-energy, anarchic spirit of the theatrical animated shorts into a serialized print format intended for a younger demographic.

The comic featured the work of various staff artists and writers employed by Western Publishing, the primary producer of Dell's comic line. These creators aimed to replicate the rapid-fire gags and slapstick visual humor characteristic of the animated cartoons, utilizing a clean, mid-century comic book aesthetic that was well-received by readers at the time as a reliable extension of the popular animated brand.
