Where it came from
Web of Spider-Man #47 was published by Marvel Comics in December 1988, arriving during a transitional period for the wall-crawler's titles. This issue features the work of writer Gerry Conway and artist Alex Saviuk, continuing the series' established tone of grounding Peter Parker's adventures within the gritty, often overwhelming reality of New York City life.
The narrative follows the 'Spirits of Vengeance' arc, tying into the broader supernatural elements that were beginning to permeate Marvel's street-level books at the time. Alex Saviuk’s clean, kinetic linework provided a stable aesthetic for the character throughout the late eighties, and the issue is recognized by collectors as a quintessential example of the period's mid-tier Spider-Man storytelling, characterized by a mix of traditional superhero tropes and escalating personal stakes for the protagonist.
