Web of Spider-Man #48

Web of Spider-Man #48 was published in February 1989 by Marvel Comics, serving as part of the broader Spider-Man publication landscape during the late 1980s. This specific issue was written by Gerry Conway and featured cover and interior art by Alex Saviuk, a staple artist known for his consistent and reliable contributions to the Spider-Man mythos during this era. The series itself was designed as a third ongoing monthly title for the character, allowing Marvel to explore stories that often leaned into more grounded or character-focused narratives compared to the high-stakes crossovers seen in The Amazing Spider-Man.

The issue is best remembered for its inclusion in the Inferno crossover event, a major Marvel Comics storyline that saw New York City besieged by demonic forces. Within this context, Spider-Man faces the supernatural manifestations of the event, which provided a stark departure from his usual street-level conflicts. Alex Saviuk’s design work was noted for capturing the frantic, chaotic energy of the Inferno arc while maintaining the classic aesthetic that defined Marvel's house style at the time. It remains a representative example of how late 80s editorial mandates integrated individual titles into massive, company-wide narrative spectacles.
