Where it came from
Werewolf by Night #24, published in 1974, arrived during a period when Marvel Comics was heavily exploring supernatural and horror-themed storytelling to align with the evolving tastes of the Bronze Age readership. Part of the broader Werewolf by Night series featuring Jack Russell, this issue continued the character's exploration of his hereditary curse, set against a backdrop of occult mystery that defined Marvel's 1970s horror output.
The issue features cover art by Gil Kane and interior work that reflects the house style established by creators like Doug Moench and Don Perlin. Like many titles from this era, the design aimed to balance gothic atmosphere with the kinetic, adventure-oriented narrative style of the time. While not considered one of the seminal keys of the run, it remains a representative example of the publisher’s successful expansion into darker genres during the decade.
