West Coast Avengers #5

West Coast Avengers #5 was released in 1986 as part of the initial expansion of the Avengers franchise into the Pacific region. Created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Al Milgrom, the series was conceived to capitalize on the popularity of the main team by establishing a distinct satellite group based in Los Angeles. This issue serves as a pivotal installment in the early run, emphasizing the logistical and atmospheric differences of operating on the West Coast compared to the traditional New York headquarters.

The visual direction for the series aimed to reflect the bright, sprawling aesthetic of California culture, diverging from the gothic or urban grit often associated with the Avengers' East Coast adventures. Al Milgrom, known for his prolific work at Marvel during this era, focused on dynamic layouts that balanced team interactions with the local setting. The issue was received by readers as a steady, character-driven entry that helped solidify the West Coast team as a permanent fixture in the Marvel publishing lineup.
