Wonder Man #2

Wonder Man #2 was published in 1991 as part of the character's first ongoing solo series, which followed his reintroduction and integration into the Avengers in the late 1980s. The series was designed to flesh out Simon Williams as a complex, multifaceted figure who navigated both the superhero world and his newfound career as a Hollywood actor. This era of the character focused heavily on his struggles with his public image and the duality of his life as an ionic-powered being.

The series was written by Gerard Jones and featured art by Jeff Johnson, who sought to capture a gritty, contemporary aesthetic that reflected the 1990s comic book climate. The design for Wonder Man during this period leaned into his iconic red and black jacketed costume, emphasizing his transition from a villainous past to a reluctant hero. While the title enjoyed a dedicated following during its run, it remains a distinct artifact of an era when publishers were actively experimenting with character-driven solos outside of the main Avengers flagship titles.
