Wonder Woman #222

Wonder Woman #222, released in early 1976, arrived during a transformative era for the character under the editorial guidance of DC Comics. Following a period where the heroine had been stripped of her powers and iconic costume, this issue sits firmly within the bronze age revival of her traditional identity. The narrative and visual direction were heavily influenced by the contemporary political and social climate, attempting to reconcile the character's mythological roots with a more modern, grounded sense of agency.

The cover art and interior work from this period reflect the evolving aesthetic of DC artists attempting to modernize the Justice League's most prominent female member. It was a time of experimentation for the series, which often relied on standalone adventures that balanced classic superhero tropes with the experimental storytelling common to the mid-seventies. While not widely cited as a watershed moment for the medium, it remains a tangible artifact of the shifting editorial priorities that defined Wonder Woman’s trajectory throughout the decade.
