Working for God in a Godless World #3

Working for God in a Godless World emerged in the late 1970s as part of a wave of alternative evangelical comic tracts designed to bridge the gap between traditional religious outreach and the visual language of underground comix. Produced during a period of rising cultural concern regarding secularization, these publications aimed to provide relatable, narrative-driven moral guidance to youth who were increasingly consuming pop-culture media.

Issue number three reflects the series' signature aesthetic, characterized by stark, high-contrast black-and-white linework that favored clarity and urgency over intricate ornamentation. The creators utilized the accessible format of the comic book to address complex theological questions within mundane, contemporary settings. While these tracts were primarily distributed through church youth ministries and street evangelism rather than newsstands, they remain a significant archival example of how religious organizations adapted graphic storytelling to compete for the attention of a changing generation.
