X-O Manowar #20

X-O Manowar number 20 was published in 1993 by Valiant Comics during the peak of the company's early nineties expansion. As a centerpiece of the Valiant Universe, the series followed Aric of Dacia, a Visigoth warrior who bonded with an advanced alien suit of armor. This issue arrived during a period when the publisher was celebrated for its tightly integrated narrative continuity and innovative marketing, which often included coupons and mail-away promotions that defined the reading experience of the era.

The interior art for this period of the series was largely shaped by the house style established by creators like Bob Layton and Barry Windsor-Smith, focusing on a blend of grounded character drama and high-concept science fiction. This issue features the work of writer Jorge Gonzalez and artist Kevin VanHook, who were tasked with maintaining the momentum of the character's transition from historical warrior to modern-day superhero. At the time of its release, the comic was well-received by fans of the burgeoning Valiant line for its contribution to the ongoing conflict with the alien Spider Aliens and the expansion of the Shanhara armor's lore.
