X-O Manowar #22

X-O Manowar issue 22 was published in 1993 by Valiant Comics during a period of significant growth for the company's shared universe. The series followed Aric of Dacia, a Visigoth warrior who had been abducted by aliens and bonded with a powerful sentient suit of armor, blending historical themes with high-concept science fiction. This specific issue arrived as the title established its rhythm within the Valiant line, which was known for its interconnected continuity and gritty, character-driven approach to superhero storytelling.

The issue features work from the creative team of writer Jorge Gonzalez and artist Kevin VanHook. The design and aesthetic of the series were heavily influenced by the house style of Valiant at the time, which prioritized dynamic, grounded artwork that sought to distinguish the publisher from the more stylized superhero tropes prevalent in mainstream comics during the early 1990s. The issue was received as a standard installment in a popular series that helped cement the publisher's place in the industry before the mid-nineties market contraction.
