Xombi #9

Xombi #9 was published in 1995 as part of the initial Xombi series for Milestone Media, an imprint of DC Comics. The series was created by John Rozum and artist Denys Cowan, operating within the Milestone Universe, a shared reality intentionally designed to feature a more diverse range of characters and perspectives than mainstream comics of the era. The narrative centers on David Kim, a scientist transformed into a self-regenerating 'xombi,' blending elements of horror, science fiction, and urban mythology.

The art style of the series, particularly in the mid-run issues, reflects the house aesthetic of Milestone, characterized by dynamic, slightly gritty linework that complemented Rozum's cerebral and often unsettling writing. While the series was critically praised for its originality and unique approach to the superhero genre, it struggled with the broader market challenges faced by independent imprints in the mid-90s, eventually leading to its cancellation after twenty issues, though it has since maintained a dedicated cult following.
