X-Statix #1

X-Statix #1 was published by Marvel Comics in 2002 as a direct successor to the subversive X-Force series. Created by writer Peter Milligan and artist Mike Allred, the title emerged during a period of experimentation within Marvel's X-Men line, focusing on a team of mutant celebrities who prioritized media exposure and public perception over traditional superhero ethics.

The aesthetic of the series was defined by Mike Allred's distinctive pop-art style, characterized by clean lines and bold color palettes that contrasted sharply with the darker, grittier tones prevalent in turn-of-the-century comics. The series was well-received by critics for its biting satire of fame and reality television culture, marking a departure from standard cape-and-cowl narratives by presenting characters who were fundamentally self-interested products of a modern media landscape.
