Y- Jū -M - Yagyū Ninpōchō #9

Yagyū Ninpōchō, also known as Basilisk: The Ouka Ninja Scrolls, is a manga series written by Masaki Segawa, based on the historical fantasy novel by Futaro Yamada. This installment, issue nine, serves as a segment of the graphic novel adaptation that reimagines the fierce political and supernatural conflicts of the Yagyū clan during the early Edo period. The series is celebrated for its intricate character designs and dynamic, high-stakes combat sequences that honor the pulpy, adventurous spirit of Yamada’s original 1964 literary work.

Masaki Segawa’s artistic direction in this series focuses on dramatic silhouettes and intense, often graphic, ink work that emphasizes the lethality of the ninja techniques depicted in the narrative. The adaptation was well-received by audiences for its ability to modernize classical Japanese period drama, bridging the gap between historical fiction and contemporary manga sensibilities. By the time this issue was released, the series had firmly established its reputation as a key modern work in the ninja genre, balancing historical gravity with stylized, supernatural action.
