Yakumotatsu: Arata #12

Yakumotatsu: Arata is a shōjo manga series created by the acclaimed mangaka Natsumi Itsuki, following a long-running tradition of supernatural and historical mystery storytelling in the genre. This specific issue represents a continuation of the narrative centered on the protagonist, Arata, as he navigates themes of heritage, ancient myth, and occult conflict within a contemporary setting. The series is celebrated for Itsuki's sophisticated character designs and her ability to weave complex, atmospheric tension into the serial format.

The publication of the twelfth issue falls within the mature phase of the series, where Itsuki refined her characteristic fluid linework and dense, thoughtful layouts. Like much of her work, the aesthetic choices were driven by a desire to balance supernatural horror with human interpersonal dynamics, earning the series a dedicated readership among those who appreciate gothic-influenced shōjo. The work is widely regarded as a significant contribution to the dark fantasy subgenre of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
