Where it came from
Yowai 5000-Nen no Sōshoku Dragon, Iwarenaki Jaryū Nintei, known in English as A Herbivorous Dragon of 5,000 Years Gets Unfairly Villainized, originated as a light novel series written by Kaisei Enomoto and illustrated by Shugao. The second volume of the manga adaptation, illustrated by Kouichi Muro, continues the comedic fantasy narrative of a peaceful dragon who is mistaken for a dark lord by a persistent young girl. This adaptation was serialized in Square Enix's Gangan Online, aiming to translate the whimsical and often absurd tone of the source material into a visual medium.
The character design centers on the contrast between the ancient, supposedly terrifying dragon and his surprisingly passive, herbivorous nature. Muro’s art style focuses on expressive character reactions to emphasize the humor of the misunderstandings that drive the plot. Upon its release, the volume was well-received by readers of the light novel series for maintaining the lighthearted spirit of the original characters while effectively utilizing the pacing required for the manga format.
