Yowamushi Pedal #101

Yowamushi Pedal, created by Wataru Watanabe, first premiered in Weekly Shōnen Champion in 2008. The series focuses on the competitive world of high school road racing, centered on the protagonist Sakamichi Onoda. Issue 101 arrives during the height of the intense Inter-High competition arc, a hallmark of the series where the narrative shifts focus to complex tactical maneuvers and the psychological fortitude required for long-distance cycling.

Watanabe’s design aesthetic emphasizes dynamic, kinetic action lines that capture the physical strain of cycling, a style that garnered significant acclaim for bringing a niche sport into the mainstream shōnen landscape. By the time chapter 101 was serialized, the series had solidified its reputation for character-driven drama, with the artwork reflecting a balance between realistic gear detail and the expressive, often eccentric, character designs that have become a signature of the franchise.
