Where it came from
Scar for a Scar was released as part of the High Seas expansion for the Decipher, Inc. Star Trek Customizable Card Game. Developed during the late 1990s, the set leaned into the swashbuckling and piratical themes found within the Star Trek universe, specifically drawing inspiration from the Mirror Universe and various encounter-heavy episodes. It served as a common action card designed to provide players with a tactical mechanism for reciprocal damage, reinforcing the set's aggressive gameplay style.
The card’s design reflects the distinct aesthetic of the Decipher era, utilizing frame captures from the television series accompanied by a layout optimized for high-speed tournament play. As a common card, it was distributed widely in starter decks and booster packs, intended to be a foundational element for players building decks around the High Seas mechanics. The art direction emphasized the visceral nature of Star Trek conflicts, a hallmark of the expansion's focus on grit and high-stakes skirmishes.
