Where it came from
The card 'Take it on the Chin' (LGS256) was released as part of the Local Game Store Promos program, an initiative designed to bolster community engagement and provide physical incentives for players visiting their neighborhood hobby shops. These promotional cards typically feature unique, often stylized, alternate art that distinguishes them from their standard set counterparts, serving as a functional collectible for competitive players and enthusiasts alike.
The design of this particular promo leans into the thematic aesthetic of the broader card set it belongs to, utilizing a high-contrast illustrative style that captures the visceral nature of the card's effect. By prioritizing local distribution, the organizers intended to create a sense of exclusivity tied to geographic participation, a strategy that has become standard practice within the hobby to ensure that tabletop gaming remains a social, in-person experience despite the increasing digitization of the industry.
