Where it came from
The Animal Pop! figure was released as part of the initial Muppets series in 2012, capturing the chaotic energy of the Muppets' iconic drummer. This specific variant, characterized by its flocked texture, was produced exclusively for the New York Comic Con in 2012. Limited to a run of 1,500 pieces, it was designed to appeal to collectors seeking a tactile, premium version of the character that emphasizes the wild, fur-covered aesthetic of the original puppet.
Funko’s design team utilized the standard mold for the number 13 Pop! figure but applied a flocked coating to the vinyl to simulate the texture of Animal’s fur. The decision to release this as a convention exclusive was a strategic move to capitalize on the nostalgia for The Muppets following the 2011 film revival. It remains one of the most sought-after iterations of the character, representing a high-water mark for early Funko convention exclusives.
